Greed powers our economy through restrictive licensing deals and claims of copyright. What enables this demand is the ability to control access or demand incentives as compensation for their work. The Internet, built without these restrictions, is being threatened to include protections for licensed and copyrighted content.

G.R.E.E.D. (Glom & Restrict Entities on Existing Domains) demonstrates how a web user’s browsing experience and anonymity can be threatened through restrictions, take-downs, censorship, and monetary blackmail if such license and copyright restrictions are imposed on the Internet.

Twitter Fileshare

Why is filesharing on Twitter important? Governments and private organizations continue to lock down legitimate file sharing through raids, law suits, and “consumer protection” laws & treaties. And while larger file sharing arenas are targeted, many forget file sharing has existed across many different mediums for decades. Early filesharing beginning with Usenet groups, where the binary data was converted to text characters and reprocessed for download. Facsimile machines follow a similar method of dissemination of binary data. And even ham radio used teletype to transmit photos across long distances by converting photos to ASCII before transmission.

If Twitter is today’s Usenet and Usenet was used for file sharing years ago, why shouldn’t Twitter be utilized today for file sharing?

Projections of Hurtsboro Identity

Collective identity of a small town can be difficulty to describe. Often the past, present, or future defines a place and those who live in it, with or without their consent. By interviewing community members and discussing the town identity of Hurtsboro, Alabama, there is hope to establish an even stronger sense of community by finding common ground among the inhabitants.

Much of the identity of a place resides in the people who live there. By illuminating the history with a street art-based event in which members of the town used projected lasers to make drawings on buildings, the event created a bond in which people were able to express themselves in a public forum under the pretext of creativity and play. The documentation video and photographic slide show shared with the public expands the dialogue to people outside the community in order to facilitate connections between beliefs and understandings of Hurtsboro, uncover the identity of a small town, and help form ideas for the future.

WILL PAINT 4 FOOD

WILL PAINT 4 FOOD was a prototype for a new campagin of artist statements recreated in the form of outdoor advertising. Utilizing 133 10mm, 45000mcd blue LED lights to spell out the phrase on the front fascade of the fine arts building on the Auburn University campus, the phrase was selected to provoke thought about the role of an artist versus the common sterotype of the "starving artist". Even down to the lack of spelling, the piece encompassed the intention of an art school for being a place of learning, not just in the arts, but in a broad range of subjects.
